href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/29336882\/\">Ricucci 2018 Histobacteriologic Conditions of the Apical Root Canal System and Periapical Tissues in Teeth Associated with Sinus Tracts<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prevalence of sinus tracts in teeth with apical periodontitis lesions ranges from <strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">8.5%\u201318%<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are more common in teeth with <strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">large lesions (&gt;5 mm in diameter)<\/span><\/strong> and frequently open intraorally on the buccal mucosa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sinus tracts are generally associated with<strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"> longstanding infectious processes. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In a study in monkeys, Valderhaug extirpated the dental pulps and left the teeth open for different time periods. Sinus tracts were observed in teeth that<span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"> remained open for longer than 100 to 200 days.
